Pembrokeshire LAG appoints new Chair
The Pembrokeshire LEADER Local Action Group is delighted to announce the appointment of their new Chair, Councillor Tony Baron last month.
As a member of the Pembrokeshire LAG for many years, alongside being the County Councillor for the Amroth district, Tony brings a wealth of community, business and public sector experience to the role, in addition to a clear knowledge of how LEADER can effectively work to support projects “I am thrilled and honoured to be elected by the dedicated volunteer members of Arwain Sir Benfro to be the Chair of Pembrokeshire’s LAG. I am also grateful for the support of the new Vice-Chair, Tegryn Jones, Chief Executive of PCNP in guiding the LAG. Under the previous Chair, Nic Wheeler, the LAG has supported more than 65 projects through PLANED. The task now is to ensure those projects are all completed with any remaining LEADER funding allocated widely across the county to projects that promote sustainable economic activity and benefit the wellbeing of Pembrokeshire residents. Longer term the objective must be to ensure Pembrokeshire benefits proportionately from any funding that replaces the EU LEADER funds.”
In addition to a new Chair, the Pembrokeshire LAG also welcomes a new Vice Chair, Tegryn Jones, who joins as current Chief Executive of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. A native of Lampeter and a fluent Welsh speaker, Tegryn is delighted to be joining the LAG and commented, “I am very pleased to be taking on the role of Vice Chair of the Local Action Group. The LAG has worked effectively to support a number of innovative projects that have contributed to improving the lives of people in Pembrokeshire, and I look forward to working with partners to continue this work.”
Chief Executive of PLANED, Iwan Thomas, welcomed both appointments, “As the legal administrative body responsible for the overall LEADER programme here in Pembrokeshire, PLANED is delighted to have the calibre and knowledge of both Tony and Tegryn fulfil these key roles within the Local Action Group. They will bring a current and future looking suite of skills to the LEADER programme here in Pembrokeshire, with a greater transparency and inclusiveness for all partners working together, to make sure that as the Programme comes to an end in 2023, its legacy and impact in the next few years, is intact, and will be evident for many years afterwards.”
