New lead for LEADER

New LEADER Project Coordinator appointed at PLANED.

Emyr John has been appointed as the new Project Coordinator with responsibility for the current LEADER project, which PLANED administers in Pembrokeshire.

Previously LEADER Monitoring Officer, Emyr brings a combination of financial and monitoring experience to this key role which will help to support the team, the projects, and Arwain Sir Benfro, the Local Action Group (LAG) responsible for managing the LEADER fund.

Speaking about his new role, Emyr said: “I am really excited about this opportunity to take LEADER forward.  I’m really proud of the work of the whole LEADER team and the projects we have supported across the county. I’m looking forward to continuing this work in my new role.”

Iwan Thomas, CEO at PLANED on confirming Emyr’s appointment said: “Emyr will be a familiar face to many from his role as Monitoring Officer.  His financial and monitoring skills and experience will bring many benefits to this role.

“Emyr’s role will significantly enhance the outcomes of the LEADER project and provide full transparent support for the great team we have here. It will also enhance the relationship with the LAG and help us here in PLANED to be in a strong position to work with our partners to make sure Pembrokeshire is ready for whatever comes to fruition post-LEADER.”

As the Local Action Group for Pembrokeshire, Arwain Sir Benfro brings together a mix of local community representatives, business, third sector, local authority partners.

Arwain Sir Benfro is currently supporting over 65 project ideas from local community groups, organisations and businesses. This is funded through the LEADER programme, which is part of the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020, Funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.

LEADER supports all kinds of activity: mentoring, training, feasibility studies or pilot projects that test an innovative new idea. It can also be used for projects that improve local skills, make better use of a local resource or realise the economic potential of part of the locality leading to a ‘new’ outcome or product.
