Celebrating community led success in Pembrokeshire

Emma Lewis, LAG Member at the Newport Kiln Project

Arwain Sir Benfro, the Local Action Group for Pembrokeshire has met to discuss new ideas from community groups who have applied for LEADER Funding.

The Local Action Group (LAG) promotes co-operative and partnership working by bringing together organisations and individuals who have an interest in the development of our communities.

Nic Wheeler, Chair of the LAG said: “The Local Action Group and the LEADER fund is a locally-led approach to rural development. We have been supporting the ideas of groups to deliver better local services, to test out new ideas or to run feasibility studies.

“Some wonderfully eclectic projects have been supported. One of our first projects approved was a seven month project, piloting a lift-share matching service in Pembrokeshire, linking up people making journeys to the same destination. The £5,047 investment by LEADER enabled PACTO to obtain a £200,000 Big Lottery fund for a five year project to build a bespoke lift sharing platform, employ staff, raise awareness and build the software needed. This was focussed on Pembrokeshire, but with potential to be applied in other areas in Wales.

“Another one of our early approved project was the Newport Memorial Hall Medieval Kiln which is due to complete soon.  LEADER contributed £52,500 to a £75,000 project. The project has created a new tourist attraction that will enhance the cultural heritage tourist experience, delivering social and economic benefits, learning and vibrancy to Newport and the surrounding local area. Ensuring the community of Newport and surrounding areas can exploit the opportunities offered by a hitherto untouched late medieval monument.”

Looking to the future, the Arwain Sir Benfro team at PLANED are supporting approved projects, measuring impact and looking at the next steps for the project ideas developed under LEADER.

The Arwain Sir Befnro Team will be at the next Community Forum Meeting 5.30 to 8.30pm on 13 February in Pater Hall, Pembroke Dock to discuss building community wealth. This will include speakers from the VC Gallery and the new Community Cooperative Share Offer Scheme for Pembrokeshire.

Mae Arwain Sir Benfro, y Grŵp Gweithredu Lleol ar gyfer Sir Benfro, wedi cyfarfod i drafod syniadau newydd gan grwpiau cymunedol sydd wedi gwneud cais am Gyllid LEADER.

Mae’r Grŵp Gweithredu Lleol (LAG) yn hyrwyddo cydweithredu a gweithio mewn partneriaeth trwy ddod â sefydliadau ac unigolion sydd â diddordeb yn natblygiad ein cymunedau at ei gilydd.

Dywedodd Nic Wheeler, Cadeirydd y LAG: “Mae’r Grŵp Gweithredu Lleol a’r gronfa LEADER yn ymagwedd leol at ddatblygu gwledig. Rydym wedi bod yn cefnogi syniadau grwpiau i ddarparu gwell gwasanaethau lleol, i brofi syniadau newydd neu i gynnal astudiaethau dichonoldeb.

“Mae prosiectau hynod eclectig wedi cael cefnogaeth. Un o’r prosiectau cyntaf a gymeradwywyd oedd prosiect saith mis, yn treialu gwasanaeth paru rhannu lifft yn Sir Benfro, yn cysylltu pobl sy’n teithio i’r un gyrchfan. Fe wnaeth y buddsoddiad o £5,047 gan LEADER alluogi PACTO i gael cyllid o’r Gronfa Loteri Fawr werth £200,000 ar gyfer prosiect pum mlynedd i greu llwyfan rhannu lifft pwrpasol, i gyflogi staff, i godi ymwybyddiaeth a datblygu’r feddalwedd angenrheidiol. Roedd y prosiect yn canolbwyntio ar Sir Benfro, ond mae potensial i’w ddefnyddio mewn ardaloedd eraill yng Nghymru.

“Un arall o’r prosiectau a gymeradwywyd yn gynnar oedd Odyn Ganoloesol Neuadd Goffa Trefdraeth sydd i’w gwblhau yn fuan. Cyfrannodd LEADER £52,500 i’r prosiect gwerth £75,000. Mae’r prosiect wedi creu atyniad twristiaeth newydd a fydd yn gwella profiad twristiaid treftadaeth ddiwylliannol, gan ddarparu buddion cymdeithasol ac economaidd, dysgu a bywiogrwydd i Drefdraeth a’r cyffiniau.  Mae’n sicrhau hefyd bod cymuned Trefdraeth a’r ardaloedd cyfagos yn gallu manteisio ar y cyfleoedd a gynigir gan heneb ganoloesol a oedd heb ei chyffwrdd o’r blaen.”

Wrth edrych tua’r dyfodol, mae tîm Arwain Sir Benfro yn PLANED yn cefnogi prosiectau sydd wedi’u cymeradwyo, gan fesur effaith ac edrych ar y camau nesaf ar gyfer y syniadau prosiect a ddatblygwyd o dan LEADER.

Bydd Tîm Arwain Sir Benfro yng Nghyfarfod nesaf y Fforwm Cymunedol rhwng 5.30 a 8.30pm ar 13 Chwefror yn Neuadd Pater, Doc Penfro i drafod adeiladu cyfoeth cymunedol. Bydd hyn yn cynnwys siaradwyr o’r Oriel VC a Chynllun Cynnig Cyfranddaliadau Cydweithredol Cymunedol Sir Benfro.
